Housed in Historic Station No. 1 in downtown Denver, the Denver Firefighters Museum uses an extensive collection of artifacts, photographs, and documents dating from 1866 to the present to tell the story of the Denver Fire Department and firefighting more generally. The self-guided tour weaves the city’s past with the history of firefighting in creative displays that are entertaining and educational for visitors of all ages. Programming at the museum focuses on fire safety for children as well as the past, present, and future of the fire service in Denver and across the country.

The Gilpin Historical Society operates the Gilpin History Museum (open in the summer daily 10 AM to 4 PM) and conducts tours of the Thomas House, Teller House, Central City Opera House, St. James Church and Weekly Register-Call Print Shop.
